since valentine's day is right around the corner...let's appreciate the work of artist steve powers (AKA espo) and his recent "love letter" project here in west philly.
from the
city of philadelphia mural arts program website:
"Composed of a series of 50 rooftop murals from 45
th to 63
rd
Streets along the Market Street corridor, the murals collectively
express a love letter from a guy to a girl, from an artist to his
hometown, and from local residents to their neighborhood of West
Philadelphia. The murals are best viewed from the Market/Frankford El."
so lovely and moving...like "anti-advertisements" or an engaging visual break in the crowded urban landscape. time to get on the smelly market/frankford el to take a closer look!
These murals are so cute! I think that would be so beneficial for every city to have a program like that! In my city, we are finally beginning to see some more characteristics of self-expression through 'graffiti' but I say that its not enough!
ReplyDeletewe have a great mural arts program in philly...quite a good gift to us city dwellers!
