DIY thursday - springtime spaceship!

i have such an affinity towards mobiles, and how they can slowly twirl in space, so i decided to create a little sparkly springtime mobile to spruce up my petite bathroom!

sometimes we need a little nudge to try something new in life...something different or challenging. for me that includes breaking free from appearance ruts. for example: i caught myself wearing the same shirt to work every monday for three weeks in a row. that's pretty bad!

yes, i have already professed my love for seam binding here...but i just had to use it in another project because it is AMAZINGLY versatile. i changed this thrift store cardigan into a fantastically colorful "new" piece of clothing...and so can you!

DIY thursday: scrap paper pads for kids!

this DIY grew out of the fact that since i made bows for my niece last week, i needed to come up with a project that would round out the care package i'm sending to her and her brother. AND i (of course) seized on another opportunity to use up more of my scrap paper to create these cute little note pads with loose leaf rings.

DIY thursday: BOW-tastic!

i wanted to make something this week to send to my adorable little niece who lives in wisconsin. it had to be an object that i could also wear...so we could match from afar. these little fabric bows were just the ticket!

DIY thursday: random stuff collage magnets!

i was trying to figure out a fancy name for these...but really, to be honest, they are collages of random stuff made into magnets! i came up with this project because i have been ridding myself of the "random stuff" AKA the "i will use this small thing later stuff" and the "one day i will need this thingy." basically all the objects i used in this DIY were one step away from the rubbish bin!

DIY thrusday...envelope sachets!

ok, you may have noticed my DIY trend...that the recent thursday posts are a mild attempt to use up my HUGE paper supply. baby steps! to that end, i used my envelope templates* from paper source for this project, but you can use whatever regular envelopes you have on hand. oh, and i got this project from an old issue of martha stewart magazine.

DIY Thursday: neck warmin'

once the cold weather rolls in, i'm addicted to neck-warmth. after some 70 degree days earlier this week, philly is finally feeling chilly. now is the ideal time for a DIY t-shirt necklace...warm and fashionable!

this project has been making the craft-world rounds, but i got my instructions from whole living magazine (and they said that they got them from the blog: cucumbersome.com, which looks to be abandoned.) i deviated from the instructions by using two t-shirts of a similar coral color.

DIY Thursday: does it smell in here?

 

on rainy days my apartment has a faint funky odor...i think it is a smell-collage of all the random people who lived here before me. since i am just a renter and my time in this apartment will be brief (thank god!) i would rather not think about those people. but a solution is needed...so i am going to make an herbal room spray for my thursday DIY project. prepare your nose!

DIY Thursday - lavender honey salt scrub anyone?

when i lived in minnesota my skin was super dry (i can confidently blame the cold long winters)...then i moved to philadelphia and my skin turned oily (i can confidently blame the hot humid summers)...and now that the season is changing my confused skin is simply FREAKING OUT.

DIY decorating - the many uses of seam binding!

when i lived in south philly i often visited the stores on fabric row to buy shiny buttons and velvety ribbons for projects that may or may not have ever been made. it is in one of these (relic from the past) stores that i discovered a product that is just plainly AMAZING: seam binding. i think that a spool of 100 yard cost me $2.50! YES, and it lasts forever!
